my new favorite tennis videogame

If you’re a tennis enthusiast, and you play tennis games, you’ve got to try Dream Match Tennis.  I’ve played them all, from the Smash Court series to Tennis Elbow, and this is my favorite.  The thing I like most about it is its roster of legends.  You can also miss shots easily, so it’s a lot like decision-making in actual tennis, where you can choose to hold back and stay high percentage, or take a risk going up the line.

Any tennis fan would immediately notice its attention to detail (and also its low production budget.)  The players swing and serve like they do.  An older player’s shot will be flatter, and a modern player will have more top spin.  I’m also pretty sure the Bimboosoft guys (or guy) sampled the players’ actual sounds.  And there’s a mod community, which I will admit isn’t huge, but still offers a lot of options to “fix” the game–i.e. using the Roland Garros logo for the “France” open.

Every tennis game has its own feel, and DMT is no exception, but you might want to give it a try.  It could end up being the only tennis game you’ll play, like it is for me.  And it’s only $20!

new Gmail themes

Filed under: Uncategorized — skylaiden @ 6:16 pm

New visual themes have been released in beta to us very fortunate Gmail users.  They’re all pretty sleek, but it does make me worry–could this be signaling of things to come?  Some themes are a bit too visually busy, and maybe just a little heavy.  I am sensing a little lag, even at my pretty decent work machine.  I hope these aren’t the beginnings of another Yahoo!-esque collapse!  Oh no I didn’t.

edit, 11/20 11:25pm:

I started using the desktop theme and I’m already done with it.  Just too heavy and slow.  It’s could be my intarweb connection, but it was a bit choppy at school too.  Now I’m using a theme that’s just solid colors–much better.

Theme: Banana Smoothie. Blog at WordPress.com.
